Enrollment & Engagement Team
We believe every student can be successful — every day, in every class
We are committed to helping every student enrolled in our school reach their academic potential and prepare for life beyond school. The Enrollment & Engagement Team empowers students to overcome challenges, so they may experience success in their academic journey.
How Student Support Works at EVA
The Enrollment & Engagement team members and teachers work with families to provide the extra help needed to enable students to remain motivated and on track. In order to provide the most individualized resources, EVA uses data to drive all recommendations. The team closely monitors student’s progress and adjusts the program as needed.
Holistic Student Support
The Enrollment & Engagement Team works with students, families, and teachers to meet the needs of every student enrolled in our program.
We take a holistic approach beginning with early intervention, support services, and linking families to school and community-based resources.
Eligibility
A student can be referred for an eligibility assessment by a learning coach or an EVA Staff member if there are any learning concerns. At EVA we strongly believe that the “every child…every class…every day” philosophy is a critical component of our educational model.
When to Intervene?
- Frustration and anxiety are interfering with learning
- The student’s attendance does not meet state and/or EVA’s expectations
- The student is significantly behind in multiple courses
- The student’s behavior is impeding his/her learning or the learning of others
If you think your student would benefit from additional support, please contact their homeroom teacher.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Students come to EVA with a wide variety of experiences and development, and they sometimes need additional support to help them be successful. To ensure our students get that additional help, EVA uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to address students’ needs. This is a research-based model that meets students where they are and builds on their strengths to improve learning and behavior.
Eligibility
Every student at EVA qualifies for MTSS, and school teams meet regularly to look at data and decide how they can best meet the needs of their students. This may mean, for example, that students receive an additional small group reading or math class or teachers provide extra support within a student’s existing schedule. Whatever the case, we are doing everything we can to provide the right support at the right time for each student. At a Glance
- MTSS is a research-based framework many schools use to provide targeted support to struggling students
- The goal of MTSS is to intervene early so students can catch up with their peers
- MTSS screens all students and aims to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges
- Every student at EVA is eligible to receive the support they need

What is MTSS?
The National Center on Intensive Intervention defines MTSS as:
“A prevention framework that organizes building-level resources to address each individual student’s academic and/or behavioral needs within intervention tiers that vary in intensity. MTSS allows for the early identification of learning and behavioral challenges and timely intervention for students who are at risk for poor learning outcomes. The increasingly intense tiers (i.e., Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3), sometimes referred to as levels of prevention (i.e., primary, secondary, intensive prevention levels), represent a continuum of supports.”
Retentions and Promotions
A parent may request to have a student promoted from one grade to the next or retained in the same grade level for the following year based on academic, social, and emotional development.
The decision to retain or promote a student more than one year will be made after prior notification and involvement of the student’s parents in the decision-making meeting. However, the final decisions will rest with the school authorities.
Retention/Promotion Request Timeline
Decisions are made each spring for the following school year along the following timeline:
- April – Requests must be made by the parent to the homeroom teacher by the end of April for the following school year
- May — Promotional conferences with the teacher, learning coach, MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support), and Administrator begin in May
Speech Articulation Intervention
EVA offers Speech Articulation Intervention for students with mild speech disorders that affect the way they pronounce certain sounds. We focus on sound production that is developmentally appropriate for that student’s age range. The support is offered to general education students who have speech sound disorders that do not significantly affect intelligibility, self-esteem, and educational achievement. This additional support is often a short-term intervention to help students progress with speech development and articulation.
Interventions for significant articulation disorders
If a student’s speech articulation is significantly impacting their educational performance, a Speech and Language Pathologist will assess if the student would benefit from Special Education.
