Learn How to Enroll »
The beauty of our program is that it is flexible enough to meet children where they are in any given subject and take them where they want to go. Grade placement assessments, completed as part of the enrollment process, allow us to place your student in the appropriate level of curriculum. So, for example, if your fourth grader is doing math on a sixth-grade level and reading on a fourth-grade level, we can tailor your curriculum and lesson plans to meet his or her abilities. Starting in 8th grade, students also have the option of dual enrollment to start earning college credit.

Typically students need to show proof of residency and proof of age, but requirements vary depending on your student’s situation. Our enrollment consultants can help determine exactly which documents you’ll need. Get in touch by calling 541.751.3003.
Incoming kindergarteners must be five years old by September 1 of the upcoming school year in order to enroll. For those not meeting the age requirement for kindergarten, check out our new Early Literacy Program designed for students 3.5 to 4 years old. Interested in signing up? Click HERE to register.
The state of Oregon law (OAR 581-026-0310) states that a student may be denied enrollment into a virtual school if more than 3% of a district’s student population is currently enrolled in an online school. If a family is notified by their local district that their student’s enrollment has been denied the family may request an appeal.
Kindergarten at EVA is full-time. At this time we do not offer a part-time Kindergarten curriculum.
EVA doesn’t offer a four-year-old kindergarten program. Children must be age five on or before September 1 in order to participate. For those not meeting the age requirement for kindergarten check out our new Early Literacy Program designed for students 3.5 to 4 years old. Interested in signing up? Click HERE to register.
The school calendar includes school “holidays” or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. If a student skips a day during the week, he or she will be marked absent. Vacation is not an approved reason for absence in the state of Oregon. Families must notify their teachers of any absences.
Parents can apply for “Educational Leave of Absences” during the school year. Requests must be submitted to the Head of School 10 days before the absence. Leave will be approved based upon consistent student progress and attendance. No educational leave will be granted during any of the testing windows for state-mandated testing.
Yes. Students must have an attendance contact each day with their teachers every day. This is captured by attending live instructional sessions.
Because EVA is a public charter school program, there is no tuition cost. EVA provides an Oregon-licensed teacher and all instructional materials for the program, including a computer if necessary. However, students and families will be responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper).
Because the Evergreen Virtual Academy provides all of the lesson plans and materials needed, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program. There are currently families with as many as five children in similar online programs using our curriculum that are being guided by one Learning Coach in conjunction with the support of their schools’ teachers.
Pursuant to statute, the Evergreen Virtual Academy is a public school and does not have to accept students who have been expelled from another Oregon public school. Students who have been expelled from an Oregon public school and submit an enrollment application to EVA will be considered on an individual basis. Parents are responsible for informing EVA if their students have been expelled from school upon initial submission of the enrollment application.
The Evergreen Virtual Academy provides a full-time, comprehensive academic program. Dual attendance is possible but prior approval from the resident district is required before the student will be permitted to attend EVA.
Students in grades K–12 who reside in Oregon are eligible to attend the Evergreen Virtual Academy.

Coronavirus FAQs
Like you, EVA is concerned with the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. To safeguard your family and prevent the spread of the virus, we strongly recommends following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) prevention guidelines, some of which are outlined below:
CDC’s Recommendations for Slowing the Spread
- Get a free COVID-19 vaccine when it is available to you. Everyone 12 years of age and older is now eligible.
- Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth to help protect yourself and others.
- Stay 6 feet apart from others who don’t live with you.
- Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available
- Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow and do not spit.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.
- Monitor your health daily. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19. Follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop.

The Learning Coach needs to have at least basic computer skills. Use of the computer is an important part of the program, but in the early grades, it is mostly the parent (or other responsible adult) who interacts with the computer. The program is user-friendly. High school students are most successful if they have basic computer skills.
Yes – but a computer will be provided for each student at no cost. Whether you use your own computer or one of ours, each family will be required to have a computer that meets the minimum specifications necessary to access our online school and live class platforms. Families must also have reliable high-speed Internet access in order to participate in the school.
Testing & Assessment FAQS
The Oregon Department of Education requires that all public schools administer the SBAC to students in grades 3-8 and 11. Your participation in the State Assessment is important for your school to stay compliant with these state standards and remain open to serve future families. Oregon Department of Education does allow for families to opt-out students from the English Language Arts and Math portions of the SBAC, but not the Science portion for grades 5,8 and 11. Opt-outs must be submitted on the state opt-out form which you can find below (New forms may not be available from the state at the beginning of the school year and will be updated when they become available). The opt-out form must be filled out annually and submitted to the Testing Coordinator or other staff member. For more information on how opting out could affect your student or school, please contact your Principal or Testing Coordinator.
NWEA Assessments will be administered throughout the school year, varying by grade level. These assessments are adaptive, which means they adjust to each answer the student provides. Star Assessments allow teachers to assess student growth throughout the school year.
In addition to basic curriculum lesson, unit, and semester assessments, EVA students in grades 3–8th and grade 11 will take the Oregon Smarter Balance (SBAC).
Assessments are not designed to find flaws, rather they are used to identify student strengths and potential areas of challenge. Your participation in state assessments is important for EVA to stay compliant with the state and remain open to serve future families.
Testing benefits your student in many ways:
- Taking tests is an important life skill
- Tests can give information that can help guide instruction
- Tests can show how children have improved over time
